Bitter Winter has just received a believable report that, on October 29, 2017, at about 3:40 p.m., more than a dozen policemen broke into a house church in the city of Yichun, Jiangxi Province, where Christians were gathering for prayer. Without producing any credentials or a warrant, the police rummaged through the house, turning it upside down.
The church’s preacher Zhang Ming (male, 59) demanded the police on whose authority they came to ransack the house and asked to show a search warrant.
The police station chief leading the group replied that they were on official business to arrest people who believe in God and that they do not need a warrant for that. He ordered his subordinates to forcibly open the donation box and took away several months’ donation money.
Afterward, the police took 17 Christians who were in the house, a 60-year-old elderly and a 16-year-old teenager among them, to the police station on the grounds of “unlawful gathering.” The policemen also seized Bibles, hymnals, and various spiritual books. Observing brutal police actions, small children in the village shouted, “The police took away the ones who believe in Jesus, they even took a child!” Frightened villagers watched from a distance not daring to come closer.
In the interrogation room at the police station, the police registered the identity information of all the detained, one by one, threatening them and prohibiting with strict orders not to gather for religious meetings anymore. After detaining them for more than seven hours, the police released the Christians after 10 p.m. that evening but continued to monitor and track them.
