On April 9, 2019, Christian Wang Jiezhi from The Church of Almighty God was given a heavy sentence of 8 years and 6 months in prison and fined RMB 30,000 by the CCP government for taking charge of managing the church affairs.
Wang Jiezhi (pseudonym Xiaojie), was born on May 4, 1970 in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. She joined The Church of Almighty God in 2005. Before her arrest she was in charge of the logistical work in the church.
At the noon of September 12, 2018, three policemen from the Chengbei Police Station in Poyang County burst into the home of Wang Jiezhi’s sister-in-law in Poyang County when she was just about to have lunch. They confirmed Wang’s identity and forcedly took her to the Chengbei Police Station.
In the interrogation room, the police said they had monitored Wang Jiezhi and another Christian (pseudonym Hao Mei) for a few months, forcing Wang to hand over her electric motorcycle key. Then four or five police officers took her back to her rented place and threatened her to open the door for a search. Despite her refusal, the police kicked the door open and ransacked the room savagely, turning it into a total mess, and then escorted her to the police station.
On the same day, Wang Jiezhi was administratively detained for 15 days by Poyang County Public Security Bureau on the charge of “using a xie jiao organization to disturb social order.” On September 26, she was criminally detained at Poyang County Detention Center on suspicion of “using a xie jiao organization to undermine the enforcement of the law.”
According to the inside sources, the police tried to extort church information from Wang Jiezhi during the interrogation, asking her which churches she had been to, and what she had given to them. When she refused to tell anything, they threatened her, “If you don’t cooperate with us, you’ll be sentenced to 7 or 8 years!”
On April 9, 2019, People’s Court of Qianshan County held a hearing on the case without notifying Wang Jiezhi’s family of appearing at the court. On May 13, Wang Jiezhi was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison (from September 12, 2018 to March 11, 2027) by the court on the charge of using a xie jiao organization to undermine the enforcement of the law in accordance with Article 300, Paragraph 1 and other provisions of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China, and fined RMB 30,000 (USD $3,900).
On June 5 of the same year, Wang Jiezhi was transferred to Jiangxi Provincial Women’s Prison and she is currently serving her term.
