On April 9, 2019, Christian Xu Yanping from The Church of Almighty God was given a heavy sentence of 7 years’ imprisonment by the CCP government for delivering and distributing the books of Almighty God’s words to the church. During her detention, she was interrogated under torture.
Xu Yanping (pseudonym xiaoyue), female, was born on March 3, 1981 in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. She joined The Church of Almighty God in 2013. At her arrest she was in charge of the logistical work in the church, including delivering and distributing the books of Almighty God’s words to the church.
Around 9 a.m. of June 29, 2018, four police officers from Poyang County Public Security Bureau of Shangrao City broke into the home of Xu Yanping’s mother with the local village head. They kept hold of Xu and then began searching the entire house—they turned every room from the first floor to the third floor upside down, confiscating an unknown number of TF cards containing faith-related information, and seizing four electric motorcycles. Later she was forcedly taken to the Poyang County Detention Center, being detained for 15 days.
On July 14 of the same year, Poyang County Public Security Bureau criminally detained Xu Yanping on suspicion of “using a xie jiao organization to undermine the enforcement of the law.” She was subsequently being held in Poyang County Detention Center.
According to the inside sources, the police forced Xu Yanping to confess and betray church information by tortures during the detention, slapping at her cheeks with the leather shoes in both hands alternately. Xu’s husband worried that she could not bear the sufferings behind bars, and raised RMB 63,000 (USD $8,785) to exploit connections, but failed to redeem her.
On April 9, 2019, People’s Court of Qianshan County held a hearing on the case without notifying Xu Yanping’s family of appearing at the court. On May 13, Xu Yanping was sentenced to 7 years in prison (from June 30, 2018 to June 29, 2025) by the court on the charge of using a xie jiao organization to undermine the enforcement of the law in accordance with Article 300, paragraph 1 and other provisions of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China, and fined RMB 20,000 (USD $2,600).
On June 5 of the same year, Xu Yanping was transferred to Jiangxi Provincial Women’s Prison and she is currently serving her term.
