From November 6 to 16, 2025, a special art exhibition was held at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Montesanto (Basilica di Santa Maria in Montesanto) in Rome—known as the “Church of the Artists.” The exhibition featured 80 works by 30 artists, using portraits and the stories behind them to reveal the lives of those who have been imprisoned, persecuted, or have lost their lives. Among the cases displayed were six from China, including lawyers, journalists, scholars, and Christians. One Christian was tortured to death in CCP custody, while another fled to Italy after spending nearly three years in prison. These paintings serve as a powerful reminder that today in China, tens of thousands of Christians are suffering brutal persecution at the hands of the CCP—persecution strikingly reminiscent of what Christians endured under the Roman Empire. History’s tragedy is repeating itself.
