On Saturday, June 28, 2025, a silent protest in the form of performance art took place on the streets of London, United Kingdom. The event was initiated by the Hong Konger in Germany (HKDE e.V.), with the London event hosted by the Association for the Defense of Human Rights and Religious Freedom (ADHRRF). On the same day, similar demonstrations were held simultaneously in Germany, Austria, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United States, and other locations, collectively calling on the international community to focus on the persecution faced by groups such as Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, and Chinese house church Christians.
At 3:00 p.m. local time, a silent protest in front of St Martin-in-the-Fields Church in London drew the attention of many passersby. Around 50 protesters participated. Some stood silently with red ropes binding their hands and tape over their mouths, holding satirical signs such as: “Everything Is Fine, If You Just Stay Silent” and “Everything Is Fine… Until the Truth Must Hide.” Through performance art, the participants expressed their protest against the CCP’s authoritarian rule.
In recent years, in addition to intensifying suppression within mainland China, the CCP has shifted its focus to Hong Kong, making it a primary target of repression. One of the event’s organizers, Mr. D, stated: “Today’s action is a form of performance art protest, giving voice to those in Hong Kong who are silenced and calling on the international community to pay attention to the situation there and support the people of Hong Kong in their struggle for genuine democracy.”
The silent protest lasted about an hour. During that time, some onlookers took photos to remember the event, while others applauded in support of the protesters. The event concluded successfully at 4:00 p.m.
