Four Regional Leaders of The Church of Almighty God Arrested and Sentenced to 10-11 Years

On February 28, 2024, the Haizhu District Court in Guangzhou sentenced twelve Christians from The Church of Almighty God. Among them, four district-level leaders were given heavy prison sentences, with terms ranging from 10 to 11 years.

  • Mo Hanmei (alias: Zheng Xin), female, born on September 23, 1985, a Christian from The Church of Almighty God in Guangdong Province.
  • Jiang Haixue (alias: Li Simiao), female, born on February 2, 1987, a Christian from The Church of Almighty God in Guangdong Province.
  • Qin Qingye (alias: Ding Ling), female, born on June 11, 1985, a Christian from The Church of Almighty God in Guangdong Province.
  • Chen Jiaqing (alias: Zheng Ye), male, born on March 6, 1989, a Christian from The Church of Almighty God in Guangdong Province.

In September 2022, Guangzhou authorities in Guangdong Province launched a massive crackdown on The Church of Almighty God, resulting in the arrest of over 200 members. Some of these Christians were subsequently sentenced to prison terms ranging from five to eleven years in 2023 and 2024. On September 1, 2022, three individuals, Mo Hanmei, Jiang Haixue, and Qin Qingye, were arrested during a gathering at 703, No. 16 Wen Sha Dong Sixth Street, Chancheng District, Foshan City. That same day, Chen Jiaqing was apprehended by police at the doorstep of No. 6, Lane 12, Xinwucun Street, Shiling Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou. 

The following day, all four Christians were placed under criminal detention, with Chen Jiaqing held at the Huangpu District Detention Center and the other three at Guangzhou’s First Detention Center.

On May 6, 2023, four Christians were charged by the People’s Procuratorate of Haizhu District in Guangzhou for holding key positions in The Church of Almighty God and for jointly promoting and spreading the church’s teachings. The charges claimed that their actions constituted a serious violation of national laws, leading to accusations of “organizing and using a cult organization to undermine the enforcement of the law.” The Haizhu District People’s Court accepted the case for trial on July 10, 2023.

On February 28, 2024, the Haizhu District Court issued sentences under Article 300 of the Criminal Law for “using a cult organization to undermine the enforcement of the law.” Mo Hanmei, Jiang Haixue, and Qin Qingye were each sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined 40,000 RMB. Chen Jiaqing received a 10-year prison sentence and was fined 35,000 RMB.
