Female Christian in Fuxin City Arrested and Tortured for Believing in God

Bai Siyu (pseudonym, female, 37) is a Christian from The Church of Almighty God.

At about 9 a.m. on January 17, 2019, Bai Siyu was held by the staff member with Exit-Entry Administration Bureau in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province when she went there to apply for a passport, and was told that she was listed online as wanted by the police. At about 2 p.m., she was escorted to the local police station by three plainclothes officers.

In the interrogation room, the police officers questioned her about her position in the church and the information of other Christians, but to no avail. They then photographed her, collected her fingerprints, and copied all the contents stored in her mobile phone.

The next morning, she was dragged into a room without a monitor to continue the interrogation about church information. As the interrogation did not yield any results, one officer kept slapping her in the face ferociously for two minutes. Another officer smashed her head with a file folder three times, berating her, “I have been stalking you for one year. Wherever you went and what bike you rode have all been photographed by me.”

In order to extort a confession about the Chirstians’ information, an officer positioned the chopsticks between her index finger, middle finger and ring finger and then savagely squeezed the fingers. Ms. Bai closed her eyes and clenched her teeth, struggling to endure the physical agony. Another officer gave her several fierce slaps in the face. Seeing that Ms. Bai still refused to tell, the officer continuously squeezed her fingers with more strength. The heart-piercing pain made Ms. Bai tremble. Another officer kept beating that hand of her and roared at her ferociously, “Since you believe in Almighty God, beating you to death is nothing. If you are not honest with us, I will have you imprisoned for the rest of your life.” But in the end, their interrogations proved to be unsuccessful.

After that, the police illegally detained Ms. Bai for 15 days on the charge of “believing in Almighty God.” During her detention, they tried many times to force her to sign “three statements” (statement of guarantee, statement of repentance, and a declaration of breaking off ties with the church) to renounce her belief, but Ms. Bai refused. She was released on February 2, 2019.

After the release, Ms. Bai’s cell phone is still monitored by the CCP.
