The number of people of faith who suffer from government persecutions in China is growing at an alarming speed. Facing the brutality and injustice from authorities, believers are left aggrieved, indignant and helpless. Bitter Winter is determined to bring to light the stories and testimonies of suppression of religious freedoms – old and new – so that they are heard outside China.
Bitter Winter has just received a believable report that, on October 29, 2017, at about 3:40 p.m., more than a dozen policemen broke into a house church in the city of Yichun, Jiangxi Province, where Christians were gathering for prayer. Without producing any credentials or a warrant, the police rummaged through the house, turning it upside down.
On April 17, authorities demolished a Catholic church in the city of Gongyi, Henan Province, claiming that it was built unlawfully.
Around 5:00 p.m. on May 19, Xia Wei (pseudonym, female, 21), a member of The Church of Almighty God, a Chinese Christian new religious movement, was arrested by the Chinese government in Chongqing along with ten other members of the congregation. The Public Security Bureau enforced residential surveillance of Xia Wei at her residence for the crime of “suspected use of a xie jiao organization to undermine the enforcement of the law.”

ADHRRF – According to reliable sources, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) issued a document in 2018 about completing a full-scale investigation and crackdown on Christians across the country within one year. In order to cooperate with the CCP’s crackdown, the government of Yiyang county, Luoyang city, Henan province adopted comprehensive monitoring of all local Christians and ordered them to tear off the couplets about believing in Jesus and remove the tiles with the word “Immanuel.”

The wife of "disappeared" human rights lawyer Wang Quanzhang has been released from house arrest after growing pressure from overseas activists, she told RFA on Thursday.
